PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a public hearing for Public Law 2026-04 is to be held in September..

Public Hearing will take place prior to the regular Town Board Meeting on Wednesday September 9th 2026. at the Greig Town Hall, 5186 Greig Road, Greig NY. At such hearing any person may be heard in favor of or against the local law.

The Public Hearing is for Local Law #2026-04. An increase in the qualifying incomes for Senior Exemption for Assessment used for Town of Greig Property Tax Collection. New top income qualifying for exemption is $30,700. Also the Assessor may grant 100% property tax exemption on the primary residence of any Military Veteran who has been ruled permanently and totally disabled by the VA. Contact Assessor for details.

Local Law No 2026-04

Article 1. - Statement of Authority. The Town Board of the Town of Greig, pursuant to the authority granted it under Section 467 of the Real Property Tax Law and Sections 10 and 20 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York, hereby enacts as follows:

Article 2. - Purpose and Findings. The Town Board of the Town of Greig has found that certain hardships exist to senior citizens in the Town of Greig who turn sixty-five years of age after the taxable status date of March 1 of any given year. The Assessor has requested permission, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law, Section 467(5), to be able to give a senior citizen exemption to any qualified person turning sixty-five years of age during the calendar year that each tax roll is finalized to avoid this inequity. The Town Board of the Town of Greig hereby finds that it would be in the best interest of residents of the Town of Greig to make such change. This local law amends and supersedes Local Law No. 2 of 2026.

Article 3. - Enactment. The Town Board of the Town of Greig, hereby adopts as follows:

Any person who shall tum 65 years of age during the calendar year which tax roll is filed shall be eligible to apply for this exemption, even though their birthday may occur after the taxable status date. The Assessor is hereby authorized to grant an exemption to such person, provided proper application is made prior to the taxable status date. Such exemption shall be granted on the following basis:

More than $28,000.00 less than or equal to $28,899.99 30% off Town Assessed Value

More than $28,900.00 less than or equal to $29,799.99 25% off Town Assessed Value

More than $29,800.00 less than or equal to $30,699.99 20% off Town Assessed value

Article 4. - Purpose and Findings. The Town Board of the Town of Greig has found that certain hardships exist to citizens in the Town of Greig who are rated by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as having Permanent and Total disability resulting from military service. The Assessor has permission, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law, Section 458-a(11), to be able to provide a full 100% real property tax exemption on the primary residence of veterans who qualify provided qualification is determined prior to the taxable status date.

Article 5. Severability. lf any part of this Chapter shall be found to be void, voidable, or unenforceable for any reason whatsoever, it shall not effect the validity or enforce-ability of any remaining section or provision of this chapter.

Article 6. Effective Date. This local law will take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State.

Status of the Brantingham Lake Dam Repair

The replacement structure was fabricated and the plan was to replace the outflow box in early April before we normally begin to raise the lake level. However, due to spring rains in early April, the water level was too high for the box to be safely installed. Rather than continue to wait for the level to drop and risk missing further spring rains, it was decided to postpone the installation until the fall. The engineers agreed the temporary fix will continue to hold until then.

The current plan, subject to change based on the weather, is to begin lowering the lake level on October 1, 2026. This is two weeks earlier than normal. Once the lake reaches the normal winter level, the old outflow box will be removed, the lake level will then drop about 6" for the main lake and a bit more for the Lilly Pond. The new stainless steel structure will be installed and the lake level will rise to normal winter level.

Town Hall AED

Thanks to the Larry Virkler Memorial Fund, the Town of Greig now has an AED in place within the lobby of the Town Hall Building. The outer door to the Town Hall building will remain unlocked, allowing anyone in need to access it at any time. The AED has built-in audio instructions that describe its operation.
